In any competitive market it is important to stand out if you want to be successful. The same thing applies in the music industry. There are a lot of great musicians out there who never get noticed. What is called branding is an important part of any business.
Branding is to create an image that your fans will associate with your band. Your image consists of how you act on stage, how you dress, what style of music you play, your band name and so on. You may want to experiment in the beginning and your image may change but eventually you should find something that works for you and stick to it.
To make your band stand out you should try to find what makes your band unique. Figure out what strengths you have in your band, it may be in the personalities of the members, it may be in your sound, wherever it is try to find what you are good at and utalize that to make your band a uniqe brand. You can never be anybody else as good as the original.
